Join our Hedgerow Heroes and help increase hedgerows by 40% by 2050!

Next year CPRE Bedfordshire plans to take part in the CPRE Hedgerow Heroes project and plant or restore hedgerows in Bedfordshire, so we are now looking for expressions of interest to work with us on this.

Hedgerows are the vital stitching in the patchwork of our countryside. Not only are they beautiful, with shifting seasonal colours, but they also provide homes and corridors for wildlife in both rural and urban areas. And all the while they help tackle the climate crisis by capturing carbon.

We’d like to see more hedgerows planted and restored, and CPRE campaigned successfully to persuade the government to accept the Climate Change Committee’s call for a 40% increase in the extent of hedgerows by 2050 to help tackle the climate emergency.

To support this ambition local areas of the CPRE network have been running some exciting projects. We are now in to the third year of CPRE’s Hedgerow Heroes project, with nine transformative hedgerow projects planned by local CPRE groups across England.

Hedgerow Heroes is a project continually growing in ambition, as local groups work hard to restore and regenerate our ever-important hedgerow networks. The project represents an opportunity for communities to mobilise at a local level, improving landscapes and making a huge difference to local environments.

If you have a project or just an idea, we would love to hear from you. We are in the very early stages of planning so anything is possible.

Expression of interest form.

We’ll ask you to tell us about your idea or project. We want to know where it might be based, roughly how long the hedgerow might be or the size of the land, who might be involved and who would benefit. Don’t worry about putting too much detail at this stage, we just need an outline.
